Liberian
Legacy
Here is an update on happenings here in Liberia
1.
Service to Servants is in the process of
obtaining bids on starting some construction on one of the houses on their
property, so we covet your prayers as we walk through this process – for wisdom
and discernment – that in every matter – even finalizing who will be hired for the
project – that it all adheres to the principles, passion and vision of Service
to Servants (skill training, logistics assistance, seminar and conference
initiatives, leadership empowerment, training of Health Practitioners).

The Salvation Army William
Booth High School burned to the ground just one week after classes
resumed. It is believed that the fire
was arson. 1,000 high school students
arrived on the compound the day after the fire to see that their educational
facility was completely destroyed. So
many tears. So much sadness. The Salvation Army educational system administration
is scrambling to try to figure out how to quickly get a temporary shelter set
up for classes while they try to find funding to rebuild. I didn’t even think about losing all their
desks – so they need 1,000 desks and chairs!
People in the Paynesville
community are doing their best to offer support – some families committing to
buying 10 to 20 plastic chairs for now, so progress is slowly coming
along. Please pray for The Salvation
Army School system in Liberia and especially the needs of the William Booth
High School teachers and students.

I visited the Brian J. Knightley School this
week. It is located in the area of the
Baptist Seminary Community. Ernest
and Kebeh Suah built the school with the help of funding provided by Brian
Knightley (England). Unfortunately,
there is no more funding from the Knightley’s as they were sending the money
they made in retirement for the building of the school, but they are no longer
able to work. They have classes for pre-school through 9th
grade. The enrolment is at 259 right
now, and as parents are able to come up with school fees, more are enrolling
every day. The school is in need of a
sponsor to help in the completion of the building project for the sixth grade
classroom, cafeteria, completing the Jr. High assembly hall and completing the
compound wall. They are doing extremely
well and contributing to the building project and sustaining the school and are
praying for others to come along side this ministry to add to what they can
contribute to complete another phase of the building project. The Suah’s are a fine, godly couple. Please pray for health and safety for Ernest
and Kebeh, the teachers and students at their school and for faith to trust God
in every situation.

CleanOFF anti-malaria campaign. CleanOFF and Service to Servants are working
together to move forward with getting this product into Liberia and into the
hands of those who can help with the prevention of malaria. Please pray for the CleanOFF team and STS in
this huge endeavor. It is so much bigger
than anything I have had to grapple with in a long time, so we will all readily
acknowledge that it is God who is in charge here and moving us forward by His
Spirit. Please pray for all involved in
this project and the new contacts that God is putting in our path.
5.
Evangel Christian Seminary. Please pray for the staff of ECS as we work
on getting Administrative matters in order and continue the teaching of the
Seminary students. Enrollment is
increasing and we request prayers for wisdom and guidance so that the
educational experience for the students (many teachers and pastors) will
empower them with God’s Spirit and truth skills as they, in turn, minister to
change lives and empower others in Liberia.
6.
World Day of Prayer. Here is a photo of The Salvation Army Sinkor Corps in Liberia celebrating WDP.

This
passage of Scripture speaks more truth than I can ever try to express! In all that happens in life, I pray that our
life will exemplify God’s presence and power and in the hard, difficult times
of questioning, to remain faithful and keep our eyes on our Creator and
King.
2 Corinthians 6:4-10 (MSG)
Our work as God's servants gets validated—or not—in the details.
Our work as God's servants gets validated—or not—in the details.
People are watching us as we stay at
our post, alertly,
unswervingly . . . in hard times, tough times, bad times;
when we're beaten up, jailed, and mobbed;
when we're beaten up, jailed, and mobbed;
working hard, working late, working
without eating;
with pure heart, clear head, steady hand; in gentleness, holiness, and honest love;
when we're telling the truth, and when God's showing his power;
with pure heart, clear head, steady hand; in gentleness, holiness, and honest love;
when we're telling the truth, and when God's showing his power;
when we're doing our best setting
things right;
when we're praised, and when we're blamed;
when we're praised, and when we're blamed;
slandered, and honored; true to our
word, though distrusted;
ignored by the world, but recognized by God; terrifically alive, though rumored to be dead; beaten within an inch of our lives, but refusing to die;
immersed in tears, yet always filled with deep joy;
ignored by the world, but recognized by God; terrifically alive, though rumored to be dead; beaten within an inch of our lives, but refusing to die;
immersed in tears, yet always filled with deep joy;
living on handouts, yet enriching
many; having nothing, having it all.
“In all these things, we are more than conquerors through
Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37)
